MEDIA RELEASE: 14 March 2012

Linsell Boulevard in Cranbourne East is nearing completion with the final 800 metres now set to be completed by two separate developers.

Linsell Boulevard will be a 3.3km long road connecting Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road (at the Hunt Club Estate) to Berwick-Cranbourne Road (at the Cascades on Clyde Estate). It is being constructed progressively from both directions by developers of various estates, with about 2.5km currently open to traffic.

The City of Casey has been working in a coordinating role with both developers to ensure the road is constructed as soon as possible, and this has included the recent securing of the land for the future road reserve along the full alignment.

The final two stages have now been designed by the respective developers, and work has recently commenced on the next 200 metres of construction eastwards from the current point of termination at Broad Oak Drive. Construction is anticipated to be completed by the developer in August 2012 depending on weather.

The final 600 metre section is to be constructed by the developers of the Hunt Club Estate. While there is no specific timeframe for these works to be completed, the release of a considerable number of additional future allotments in the estate are dependent on the completion of Linsell Boulevard. The developer will make a decision based on market demand for allotments when to proceed with the Linsell Boulevard construction. At this time, the indications are encouraging that the developer will proceed in the near future. Tenders have closed for this construction, and the developer is currently assessing them.

Council and the community are excited about the imminent connection of the two sections of Linsell Boulevard. The project will deliver a key part of the local road network which will provide improved access to the arterial road network, direct access from the Cascades on Clyde area to the services and facilities located in the Hunt Club Estate and substantially improved access to the Cranbourne town centre from the Cascades area.

Balla Balla Ward Councillor Geoff Ablett visited the area to inspect progress on the recently commenced works.

‘Local residents are looking forward to the ultimate connection on the two sections of Linsell Boulevard and, while the timing is not a matter that Council has direct control over, I am hopeful that the final section will be completed by September 2012,’ said
Cr Ablett.

‘It has been frustrating for all of us, but I am glad to see that the end is in sight. This will enable the residents of the Cascades Estate to more conveniently get to the schools and kindergarten in the Hunt Club Estate.’
